TODAY AI BRIEF

3 things about Siri's reported AI opening

1   Apple reportedly plans to let rival AI chatbots answer Siri queries.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reported on March 26, 2026, citing people familiar with the plans, that Apple will open Siri in iOS 27. Google Gemini and Anthropic's Claude are named as examples. Apple has not announced the change. Read MacDailyNews's summary.

2   The system is called Extensions, and users would switch assistants in settings.

Installed AI apps would work with Siri, the Siri app and other Apple Intelligence features. Users would manage them in Apple Intelligence and Siri settings, and a new App Store section would list compatible apps. Internal builds reportedly show a picker that switches between Siri and ChatGPT. Read iClarified's report.

3   Developers may need special entitlements, and Apple has not commented.

The report says developers would apply for software entitlements to connect to Siri, but it does not explain how the process works. Apple did not discuss the framework at its WWDC keynote, according to Gurman as reported by iClarified. See the developer details.

AI FORWORD

Siri may become a menu of AI models, and Apple keeps the door

The shift.  ChatGPT is the only outside assistant wired into Siri today. Opening Extensions would end that exclusivity and let users pick a model for each task. Read the exclusivity point.

The gatekeeper.  Bloomberg's reporting expects Apple to earn more from third-party AI subscriptions sold through the App Store. Entitlements and a dedicated store section would put Apple in the middle of every assistant. Read the business angle.

The silence.  Apple has said nothing on record. Gurman offers possible reasons, including EU regulation and litigation risk with OpenAI, but those are his speculation. Read his reasons.

The reframe.  Choose an assistant by the task, not the brand. Before you connect any AI to your phone, check which apps it can read and what it can send on your behalf.

Why are so many brands shifting ad spend to CTV?

People spend more time streaming than they do with cable, social media or video games, and advertisers know it. In fact, according to Advertiser Perceptions and Premion's 2026 CTV/OTT Advertiser Survey, 70% of advertisers are raising CTV budgets in 2026, with much of that budget diverted from social advertising.

For marketers who want a presence in streaming, Roku is the obvious place to go, with scale that speaks for itself. With more than 100 million households representing 47% of all streaming time in the US, Roku easily has more reach than every competitor.

With Roku Ads Manager, you can reach viewers across more than 100 premium apps in a single buy. Combine your customer data with Roku's insights to reach only the households you want, then measure and optimize to your heart's content.

Want to give it a try? Unleash your first campaign in just four steps: (1) Create your account, (2) define your objective and target audience, (3) upload creative, and (4) launch.

First-time spenders get a $5,000 match on the first $5,000 spent with code BEEHIIV5K. Terms apply.

SOCIAL SNAPSHOT

What is still unconfirmed

Gemini depends on Google.  Gemini requests would only work if Google enables its app for Extensions, according to MacDailyNews. Read the Gemini caveat.

A switch is off for now.  The reported settings panel exists in internal builds but is toggled off on the backend. Read the toggle note.

Siri's rebuild is separate.  Apple's work with Google to rebuild Siri's underlying technology is a different project from Extensions. Read the separation note.

Timing is unknown.  Reports tie the change to the iOS 27 cycle, but neither source gives a release date. Read the timing caveat.

PROMPT STATION

Compare AI assistants for one daily task

When more assistants can reach your phone, the choice should follow the task. This prompt works in Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini and helps you compare two assistants on what they can access, how you check their output, and how you would switch back.

I want to use an AI assistant for this daily task: [DESCRIBE THE TASK]. I am comparing [ASSISTANT A] and [ASSISTANT B].
Act as a practical advisor. For each assistant, list what data it would need to access, the permissions I should grant, the risks of sending that data, and how I would check its output before acting on it.
Finish with a one-week switch test: the steps to run both assistants on the same task, the result I should measure, and how I would move back if the chosen one fails.

Tip:  Swap the brackets for a task you repeat, such as summarizing customer emails or drafting social posts. Run the test on dummy data first, and never give an assistant access to banking apps for a trial.
